The population of stray cats in Moscow is a complex issue influenced by various factors, including urbanization, pet ownership trends, and animal welfare policies. According to recent estimates, there are approximately 150,000 to 200,000 stray cats living on the streets of Moscow. This figure is subject to fluctuations due to seasonal changes, food availability, and the city's efforts to manage the feline population through sterilization programs and adoption campaigns.
The presence of stray cats in Moscow is a longstanding problem that has garnered attention from both local authorities and animal welfare organizations. The city implements various strategies to control the cat population, such as catch-and-release programs where cats are captured, neutered, and then returned to their original locations. These efforts aim to prevent further breeding while ensuring the well-being of the existing feline population.
Despite these initiatives, the exact number of stray cats remains challenging to determine due to the elusive nature of the animals and the vastness of Moscow's urban landscape.
